Our goals
Malaria remains a large issue in many countries. Specifically, Africa holds about 94% of cases worldwide, while Nigeria encompasses around 31% of global malaria deaths[1]. Through our work with the schools of Dawakin Tofa and First Lady Science College in the Kano State of Nigeria, we learned the great burden this gives to the students and their education. As a part of our mission of supporting and uplifting students, we embarked on a process to help prevent malaria in these two schools.
Through a partnership with the Sarki Abba Foundation and leaders of the two schools, as well as support from the Robert J. Havey Institute for Global Health, our project involves installing screens in classrooms at both schools to keep mosquitos out during the day. For the night, each student and teacher will be provided with a treated net for their bed.
